I love working with people in a healing context.
I have consulted with expectant and new parents as a professional postpartum doula, parenting coach and perinatal mentor since 1996. I find it very rewarding to interact on a personal basis in a way that can help, support, teach and heal. I feel that mentoring families as they begin to think about their new lives, and supportive healing through Reiki and energy work, are ways to achieve a more compassionate, aware and peaceful world where interactions are heart and soul based and people understand the interconnectedness we all share.
My philosophy is holistic.
There is no real separation between our emotional lives and our physical realities so my work is holistic- based on the whole person- body, mind, heart and spirit. It is attuned to the subtle energies that people express consciously and unconsciously. When we work together we touch on all of the dynamic and interlinked aspects of the self to come back to the center, a place of love, vibrant health and intimate connection.
I am a parent myself and have two children, now in their early twenties. I am a native of the upper west side of New York City and live with my mother and children in an intergenerational, multiracial and holistic home.
My experience and education:
I have in depth education in the dynamics of the family and somatic health.
I have spent over 15 years professionally guiding and coaching new parents. In my role as a postpartum doula I worked with parents and their beautiful babies while teaching parenting skills, breastfeeding, and making sure bonding and attachment was in place. As a mentor I advised and counseled my clients in many aspects of parenting.
I have studied the family in depth from many different perspectives. These include the integrated dynamics of perinatal psychology (in private tutorials with one of the first perinatal psychologists in the United States), somatic and family dynamics, infant and child development, the manifestation of trauma, attachment parenting and the historical, sociological, and anthropological aspects of the family and birth, as well as counseling practice.
I have studied for many years with, and also at times practice in consultation with, my mother Ann Singer RN MS who trained me in her method of counseling. She is an institute certified psychoanalyst and psychotherapist from the New York Center For Psychoanalytic Training (1984).
In 2004 I began to integrate my interest in holistic and somatic health with my work as a perinatal mentor and delved into more intensive study of our energetic selves through energy psychology and energy healing techniques.
My certifications:
I hold certifications in: Holistic Infant Child Development, The Holistic Child and the Individuating Self, Infant and Parent Attachment and Bonding, the Importance of Touch, Psychosomatics and the Mind Body Experience, The Theory and Practice of Counseling, Symbolism and Interpretation as well as certificates from the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute in Embodied Psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy: The Essentials for Embodied Psychotherapy Practice and Relational Somatic Psychotherapy and Character: Contemporary Practice. I am also a Reiki Master with a lineage dating back through Hawayo Takata to Mikao Usui.
